Wright's Imperial Hotal - in Tokyo was built in the shape of an "H". Floating foundations and flexible wall structure to take earthquakes. 1923 saw the Great Kanto quake and the hotel was to be opened that day, instead took in refugees. 150,000 were killed, but survivors were housed.
Frank Lloyd Wright House, and one of the last architectural Bucket List items I visited with my late mom. She and I shared a love for Frank Lloyd Wright's work and if memories serves me right, with a 15 month toddler in tow, we did this tour two times in a row. I think the docent was tired of us the first tour, we asked so many questions and took even more notes. When I put on the sterling silver designs from this house on my holiday tree every year, I am taking back to that day with my mom.
