This is a modern made sword of great length at 29 ¼”. This sword was created specifically for training and cutting. It is leather wrapped for optimum grip. These swords are very popular for toyama ryu training. They are on the heavy side and were intentionally made this way to allow them to cut tatami extremely well. The sword is mounted with a Dragon themed koshirae. It is adorned with an antique armorer style Tsuba. Beautiful black lacquered saya with black and brown Sageo.
KOGATANA. The small knife, carried in one of the pockets of a Japanese sword scabbard (saya). These small knives have two parts, a removable blade and a hilt and they are known either as a kogatana, after its blade, or as a kozuka, after its hilt. The hilt (kozuka) are often highly decorated.
A tantô. Blade length 26.3 cm, hira-zukuri, hamon: suguha, nioi. Nakago: ubu, one mekugi-ana, mumei, two part habaki, rubbed and slight stains.Koshirae: tsuba, fuchi-kashira, kojiri, kozuka, kôgai and menuki en suite of shakudô nanako with kiri in gold. Saya lacquered with red and brown bands with added floral decoration in hiramakie, kanamono in shape of a small gilt copper bird. Green binding over same. 19th century.
