Japanese violinist, Sayaka Shoji, was born into an artistic family with her mother being a painter and her grandmother a poet. Sayaka spent her childhood in Siena, Italy but studied in Cologne under Zakhar Bron and has since made Europe her permanent base. Her other teachers have included Sashko Gawriloff, Uto Ughi, and Shlomo Mintz . The first Japanese and youngest winner at the Paganini Competition in Genoa in 1999, she plays the 1729 Elman Stradivarius.
