Fornasinius_russus  Fornasinius russus is native to an area from Lake Victoria west to the western coast of Africa. The reddish brown color and the unusual horn help identify this rarther rare beetle. Large examples can be almost 7.0 cm long. However, most examples appear to be about 5.5 cm in total length.  The red color will help identify this beetle

It earns its living on the back of buffalo, rhino, giraffe and many of the other plains game of Africa. Was  severely threatened when it took up with cattle which are routinely dipped in Africa. Ticks, poisonous dip and the population plumeted. Brought back through captive breeding and release programmes…
