Neville Marriner (1924) is Life President of the Academy of St.Martin in the Fields. He began his career as a violinist, playing in a string quartet, a trio, and the London Symphony Orchestra. During this period he founded the Academy, forming a top-class ensemble from London’s finest players. As a player, he worked with the greatest conductors like Toscanini and Furtwängler, Krips, Szell, Stokowski and Pierre Monteux. He began his career in 1969, after his studies in the US with Monteux.
