I believe this is Maestro Claudio Abado. The last time I attended his concert was at the Carnegie Hall post September 11th 2001. As always ,awe inspiring program,Beethoven's 4th Symphony among others,conducting The Berlin Philharmonic,numerous curtain calls.

Sergiu Celibidache (1912–1996), was a Romanian conductor, composer, and teacher. Celibidache frequently refused to release his performances on commercial recordings during his lifetime claiming that a listener could not obtain a "transcendental experience" outside of the concert hall.
