Ensemble, fourth quarter 19th century. Romanian. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gift of the Brooklyn Museum, 2009; Gift of Mabel Choate, 1940 (2009.300.5a–h)

Embroidered silk and metallic mesh evening shawl, French, ca. 1925. This shawl captures the opulence and decorativeness of the Art Deco period. Interest is added to the graceful pattern by the motifs encroaching upon the mesh central field, adding movement and vitality to the appearance. Perhaps what makes this garment even more special is its remarkable condition, for metallic lace is often tarnished.

Circa 1900-1905 wool, silk, and rhinestones Evening Cape by Jacques Doucet.

I’d Wear This

I find this soooo much more attractive then modern men's wear. A Confederate General's uniform is great too.
