Madame Alexander dolls- I had a collection of these THAT I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH. I always swore I would never do that to my kids and I never have. And the dolls? Were destroyed when my parents moved to their respective new homes.
Beatrice Alexander started the Madame Alexander Doll Company in 1923. Growing up, her parents ran a doll repair shop and Alexander and her sisters began making dolls. During World War I they often made Red Cross Nurse dolls out of rags. In the 1930s Alexander became the first to make licensed characters from literature and movies into dolls. The first of these dolls were from Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, and Gone with the Wind.
