Pig Pens or Pig Pastures: Pigs do better on pasture. Well, we really don't have pastures. We have fenced in paddocks with tall overgrown weeds and ground cover. Our property was at one time, completely wooded. The areas we have cleared are sufficient and suitable for the animals we raise, but lush, green pasture will be a long time coming.
Large Black Pig- according to Hobby Farm magazine the perfect pig. Old English breed, well marbled, but not with a lot of waste needing trimmed. Can be pasture raised, a true grazing pig, can be finished on grain if desired. Will not destroy pasture, as rooting is limited to mud hole and around feeder. Will top out at 700lbs, but when raised on lush pasture, will finish out at 250.
