"Connaissance" ("Knowledge") photo by KaourDen : Library of L'Hôtel National des Invalides, usually known simply as "Les Invalides". Louis XIV commissioned the hospital for wounded, sick or homeless soldiers. Built between 1671 and 1676 by Libéral Bruant, and later by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Robert de Cotte. It continues its care of soldiers to this day, but also now houses three military history museums within the complex.
