Aboriginal peoples are drastically overrepresented in correctional facilities across Canada. Aboriginals represent about 2 percent of the adult Canadian population, and account for 15 to 19 percent of Canadians sentenced to custody. Strong societal forces should be the focus of studies involving native incarceration rather than individual faults.
