Semillas Sonora says: this corn belongs to the CONICO branch meaning cone shape, same branch different color. We call them MAIZ CRIOLLO, that roughly translates to Heirloom corn. You can find it in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. My friend told me that when you toast the dry corn kernel then you can grind it to make PINOLE which is a hot drink made with milk and sugar to taste, very nutritious and tasty, and you can also make the classic TORTILLAS.
