Miep Gies. Miep and Jan Gies, Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler, Bep and Johan Voskuijl, made up a team of helpers for eight Jews hiding at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. Following betrayal and deportation of the hiders, Miep and Bep made sure the diary of the youngest of the group, Anne Frank, didn't fall into the hands of the Germans. Miep stored Anne's diary in a drawer, unread, and gave it to Anne's father, who to it that Anne's legacy was published in 1947 with the title "Het…

Miep Gies, Otto Frank's secretary, defied the Nazi occupiers to hide Anne Frank and her family for two years and saved Anne's diary. A Roman Catholic, she and her husband risked their lives attempting to save theirs. 'Courageous' does not begin to describe her character. The constant gathering of food for the 8 occupants of the 'secret annex' during strict rationing was but one obstacle to be overcome. Miep died in 2010.
