The current flag of the British Virgin Islands was officially adopted in 1956. As an overseas territory of the United Kingdom, the islands fly the (UK) flag. The flag features a likeness of Saint Ursula, the namesake of the islands. She was symbolically martyred along with 11,000 virgins, and all are represented by the twelve lamps.
