The 18th century Emin Mosque in Turpan. On any Friday around a third of the men who worship at the mosque are not local, but in fact tourists from other areas of Xinjiang. While the Chinese government may make it difficult for Uyghurs to get passports to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, the recent improvements in transportation have certainly made it easier for tour buses to reach Turpan.
