West Kennet Longbarrow, Wiltshire - One of the most famous Neolithic tombs. People of period were f1st to create large communal burial places. Ritual involved interring items: pottery vessels, human skulls, polished stone axeheads along with the bodies. Archaeologists believe these tombs built by farmers was a way to claim the land as their own. You could stand upright in tomb’s passage, chambers much smaller. When tombs were closed people put huge ‘blocking stones’ which barred entrance.
