The horrific event, known in Ukrainian as the Holodomor (literally, murder by starvation), took place in 1932-1933. Determined to force all Ukrainian farmers onto collective farms, to crush the burgeoning national revival, and to forestall any calls for Ukraine's independence, Communist regime embarked on a campaign to starve the Ukrainian people into submission. 10 million people – 25% of Ukraine's population – had perished during the Holodomor. 3 million of the victims were children.

Yanukovych broke Ukrainian Law by becoming a Russian Caused Holocaust Denier. On 26 April 2010, newly elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, told Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe members that " it would be wrong and unfair to recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide against one nation." Our Ukraine Party charged that he violated Ukrainian law which defines the Holodomor as genocide against the Ukrainian people and makes public denial of the Holodomor unlawful.
