Charles Robert Darwin, (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and proposed the scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding.
One evening when I was in 11th grade (1972) my father (a physicist) once again dragged all of us to a lecture (never telling us what or asking if we wanted to go) -well, 3 fascinating hours later as we were leaving I asked, "who was that?": Carl Sagan. Lucky me.
Emiliano Zapata Salazar (1879-1919) was a leading figure in the 1910 Mexican Revol. & is still revered today. He formed an important revolutionary force, the Liberation Army of the South. Followers of Zapata were known as Zapatistas.
