I'm not even sure how you'd walk in these...Turkish or Syrian early 20th century.     Ottoman Empire women wore these to protect their feet from the dust of the streets and the floors of the public baths.  These wooden sandals, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, were reserved for special occasions. (Info taken from the book "Shoes" by Linda O'Keeffe.)
