5,891,306 Volumes: Since first opening its doors to the public in 1873, the Chicago Public Library has maintained its status of one of the City's most democratic of institutions — providing all Chicagoans with a free and open place to gather, learn, connect, read and be transformed.
"Library Hour" at a public school in Alberta, in the 1920's. Miss Hopkins, CPL's first Children's Librarian, started the program in 1914, bringing books to schools with no budget for books, and extolling the joys of reading. This "traveling library" was the first of its kind in Canada.
Headphones can now be checked out for your child to use our ABC mouse or AWE programs. Just bring in your library card and your child can interact to educational programs while you browse our wonderful selection of children books.
