Phar Lap (1926 - 1932) is an Australian legend. He was the winner of Australia's Melbourne Cup in 1930, that country's equivalent of the Kentucky Derby. Phar Lap raced during the depression and won the hearts of a nation he ran in. Phar Lap was a national hero and died only 2 years later in Menloo Park, California under very suspicious circumstances. It was long thought that organized crime played a major part in his death
JOHN NEWCOMBE ~ (born 23 May 1944 in Sydney) is an Australian former world No. 1 tennis player who won seven Grand Slam singles titles, and an all-time record 17 doubles titles. He was one of many Australian players to dominate the field during the 1960s and 1970s, and is one of the few men to have been ranked world No. 1 in both singles and doubles.
