William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody (1846 – 1917) was a United States soldier, bison hunter & showman. He was born in the Iowa Territory. Buffalo Bill received the Medal of Honor in 1872 for service to the US Army as a scout. One of the most colorful figures of the American Old West, Buffalo Bill became famous for the shows he organized with cowboy themes, which he toured in Great Britain & Europe as well as the United States.
Perhaps the most historic stagecoach in existence is the famous Deadwood coach, which was carried for many years by Buffalo Bill in his Wild West shows all over America and Europe. This coach was built by the Abbott-Downing Company, of Concord, New Hampshire, in 1863, fitted with the thorough brace springs which made the Concord coaches the most popular used on the great trails.
