Bellevue Hospital Center has been forced to transport its intensive care unit patients two blocks north to NYU Langone Medical Center, as the staff at the Bellevue ICU are consumed with Ebola care.

In 1736, Bellevue Hospital Center was the first to be opened in NY City. Several firsts are attributed to BHC such as the first in the nation with an accredited nursing school and first maternity ward. The building still exists as The Men's Shelter on 30th Street and First Avenue. It's hospital facilities has been moved to a new structure located a few blocks south on 27th Street.
