Beautiful fall colors on a Ruddy Shell duck. raised a couple of these at the zoo (worst behaved ducklings ever)

"Scotch Bonnet & Ruddy Turnstone" Alkyd. I try to picture these shells in a natural setting common to their area. This Scotch Bonnet is pictured on a North Carolina beach with shells commonly found in the area including the Sand Dollar. The bird is one of my favorites, a Ruddy Turnstone. In summer plumage, the Ruddy Turnstone has a fascinating pattern of white, black and beautiful russet color. #concholgy #theshellcollection #shellcollecting #sanibelisland #robertbdance

The ruddy shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea) is a member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae. It is in the shelduck subfamily Tadorninae. There are very small resident populations of this species in north west Africa and Ethiopia, but the main breeding area of this species is from southeast Europe across central Asia to Southeast Asia. These birds are mostly migratory, wintering in the Indian Subcontinent. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
