Traditionally only men are allowed to work in the tanneries. The leather products were amazing, but I'll never forget that smell! Rotting meat. They offered mint to shoppers, to suppress it, didn't quite do the trick..
The Chak Prah Festival: I stumbled upon it on my way to the Thai islands. It was about 1km long, the monks were collecting offerings in buckets- they weren't allowed to touch the women either. So fascinating!!!
While in Beijing I met a lovely Chinese fashion student & foodie who was visiting the area to try some local noodles and insisted on taking me with her, after breaking the ice by offering a DIVINE chocolate brownie. We didn't speak each others language, but managed to communicate just fine. On a river stroll we happened upon a local his-story teller surrounded by young people & a band of local people playing some awesome music. It was a truly magical day!!!
