Breathtaking Paper Lantern Constellation in Thai Yi Peng Festival [THAILAND] - Yi Peng lantern festival is meant as a time for tham bun (Thai: ทำบุญ), to make merit. The lantern, called Krathong, is a small hand-span size raft that beautifully decorated with ornaments made of banana leaves, flowers, candles, and joss stick. Sukhothai is the birthplace of Loy Krathong that was first taken place almost 800 years ago.
Thousands of Khom Loy lanterns drifted into the sky in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in celebration of the Yee Peng Sansai Floating Lantern Ceremony. The celebration is an homage to the Buddha and coincides with the Loi Kratong festival, which involves floating lotus flowers onto waters nearby.
