Former worker of West Jordan youth center not surprised by riot
Copper Hills Youth Center was in the newspapers due to a riot. Former employees spoke about an understaffed facility with problems with paperwork. A previous name was Rivendell Psychiatric Center. It detained journalist Lyn Duff for period because her mother disagreed on her choice of a partner.
Bergens Guttehjem (Bergens home for boys) closed in 1978. At least 3 boys died there. One of them after being birched with a rod which had not been placed in salt before using it causing infections. Later investigations has shown that former employees destroyed or removed important papers which was against the law. They were not punished.
The DeSisto School was a teenage asylum which closed in 2004. The teenagers were subjected to various forms of humiliation and the founder had no real degrees. Most just wasted their time and their parents money. Some returned home with emotional scars.
Liahona Academy is a private prison boot camp like boarding school. A second school is built in Hurricane nearby. The male teenagers have their heads shaved and are forced into a strict daily scheduled and are not able to call back home to family and friends before they have adapted to the schools bizarre concept. Lately it is used as a tool in custodial disputes where a parent from another state can move to Utah and keep the boy from a parent dispute court ordered visitation etc.
A 6-stories tall & 20 feet wide at the base, tree in Fort Lauderdale is in danger of being removed to make way for an unnecessary condominium. The Fort Lauderdale city commission is breaking a resolution they made in 1987 to protect this tree
Arizona Boys Ranch or as it is known as today Canyon State Academy was the place where Nicholaus Contreraz - a 16 year old boy died in 1998. His death prompted California to take outsourced juvenile offenders home to serve their sentence in their home state.
