Ronan Point was a 22-storey tower block in Newham, East London, which partly collapsed on 16 May 1968 when a gas explosion demolished a load-bearing wall, causing the collapse of one entire corner of the building. Four people were killed in the incident, and 17 were injured. Architecture was in need of new ideas and a new direction.

On the 23th of August 1989 two million people across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined hands, creating a human chain, to protest peacefully against the Soviet occupation.
