The City of Jacksonville Department of Public Works, and SouthEast Development Group were honored at the 2013 Historic Preservation Commission Awards Ceremony Thursday evening, May 2, for their efforts in the restoration of Downtown’s Jacobs Jewelers historic clock.

Women were more important to the history of the city than any other city in America.  Great Ladies like Grace Trout, ---arguably one of the most extraordinary early suffragists in the country----who made her home on the St. Johns River at Marabanong.  Eliza Souvielle the poet, astronomer, botanist and first woman to lecture on Science at Harvard University, Anita Tyng, the first female surgeon accepted into the medical establishment lived on Reddy Point.
