The Game of Kings: Dorothy Dunnett: i came across this book in my local library in the 60s, along with Queen's Play, and waited impatiently for years for each of the sequels to be published in the States. Way back then, I wrote DD the only fan letter I've ever sent an author -- and treasure her answer. JB

Dorothy Dunnett, my absolute favorite novelist. Her plots are intricate, historical detail precise, and grasp of human nature unsurpassed. I have to laugh when people hold up writers like Hemingway or Updike as "great," because they could not have held a candle to Dunnett's work.
