Daufuskie Island Between Savannah and Hilton Head Island. Slaves once grew indigo and Sea Island cotton, while the plantation owners spent much of their time on the mainland. Gullah people retreated then returned to the island after the Civil War. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rob Kennedy Historic Trail throughout the island highlights: Billie Burn Museum, Gullah Learning Center, tabby ruins, historic cemeteries, and old logging railroad line.
