Not only can it lighten up your images, but it can make your colors and contrast pop by making an S curve. To do that, just add a second point in the curves window, and drag it down a bit. I love purple and fuchsia together. A purple contained within the lid space and then the pink in the center patted on top would look stunning. I think working w/ loose pigments in this look is necessary.
