Union, IL - Illinois Railway Museum, open from April through October, celebrates railway preservation with electric cars, steam trains, diesel trains, trolley buses and motor buses operating throughout the grounds. This museum was the film location for all of the scenes on the train and at the railroad depot in A League of Their Own.
FW&D Texas Mishap - Fort Worth & Denver SD7 #851 has split a switch in the yard at Lubbock, Texas, April 15, 1964. C&S SD7 812 waits to give a helping hand in the rerailing process. We believe there is enough supervision to handle the situation. FW&D and C&S SD7s were the regular switchers and road power for this interesting FW&D branch line, since abandoned.
Great Northern Railway passenger power lays over at the roundhouse next to St. Paul Union Depot in the early 1960s. The F3As and E7As pictured here were used on the GN's premier trains, including the Empire Builder, Western Star, and Gopher. The Mississippi River is visible behind the roundhouse, and note the maroon Soo Line geep in the background at far left.
CBQ SW7 9255 pulls the Nebraska Zephyr and CNW F7(A) 411 into the UP's Belvidere Yard on in it's way back to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union after Train Festival 2011 in Rock Island. It's here where the the SW7 would be shuffled back to behind the F7(A) and the Silver Pilot would once again take the lead the rest of the way.
