What Vegetables Should Not Be Planted Next Each Other in a Garden?
While cucumbers thrive near bush beans, lettuce and radishes, and choke near potatoes. Beans, beets, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers and strawberries make good neighbors -- as long as you plant the onions, garlic, leeks and shallots elsewhere. Peppers do well with carrots, eggplant, onions, parsley and tomatoes, but not with kohlrabi. Keep lettuce away from cabbage and keep onions away from asparagus, beans and peas. Spinach gets along with everyone.
Herbs that you plan to dry for storage should be harvested at their peak to conserve the herbs’ natural oils responsible for flavor, aroma, and medicinal properties. The timing depends on the plant part you are harvesting and how it will be used. After harvesting, you want to dry herbs quickly to preserve their essential oils for the greatest intensity.
