Notice and Note by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst is a fantastic book that helps us to get back to what matters in reading, while incorporating the Common Core ELA standards. Here is a reading log I use with my students as I introduce the Signposts for them to note their thinking during their independent reading.
Based on the revolutionary and game changing new book Reading Nonfiction: Notice and Note Stances, Signposts and Strategies by Beers and Probst, I created a set of coordinating posters (anchor charts), reading logs, and bookmarks for the following five signposts: Contrasts and Contradictions Word Gaps Quoted Words Numbers & Stats Extreme & Absolute Language These five signposts help students recognize significant moments in in virtually any piece of nonfiction.
