JULY 10, 1982 We hardly knew her, before she was gone. Her name was LANDALUCE. Landaluce, a two-year-old daughter of Seattle Slew from his first crop, won the Hollywood Lassie Stakes by 21 lengths under jockey Laffit Pincay, Jr. Calling it a 15-length margin, the announcer was so struck with amazement that he got it wrong. It remains the largest winning margin ever by a two-year-old at Hollywood Park. She was posthumously awarded Two-Year-Old Female Horse of the Year.
Seattle Slew - After leaving the track with a career racing record of 14 firsts and 2 seconds in 17 races and earnings of $1,208,726, Seattle Slew would go on to become a champion again many times over as a sire. A sire of well over 100 Stakes-winners and a champion Broodmare sire, Seattle Slew has earned the title of 'most complete thoroughbred the industry has ever seen.'
