In 1929 Harriett B. McCabe, wife of Mayor William W. McCabe, presented 300 tire covers to the Town of Ocean City for advertising purposes. The popcorn stand was well received and continued to operate under the partnership until, it is said, some legal problems with the government surfaced. Everett went on to open the business under its present name of Fisher?s Popcorn

During the winter of 1942, German U-boats sank thirteen ships off the coast of Ocean City. The beach was fortified with artillery bunkers and patrolled by attack dogs during the war years.
