Mina's Blue/Green Gown from Dracula. I love the costumes in this film, but the movie is supposed to take place in 1897, and the bustle-era costumes on Mina are from about 10-15 years EARLIER, while her best friend Lucy has styles more typical of the 1890s, with a weird modern edge.
Crushed velvet overdress, silky underdress. Embroidery around pointed collar. Bell sleeves lined with underdress material. Overdress is slashed to waist at one hip and has cord to pull it aside. Sleeves are set in. Princess seams. Could use a birka gown pattern! Easily! Just mod the sleeves and collar and don't sew up one side of one gore!
Arwen (Liv Tyler) Lord of the Rings 2001. The movie is filled with tons of beautiful costumes but the one to showcase Arwen in promotions for the films is what is called "The Blood Dress." The name is attributed to the gorgeous velvet bell sleeve. It has a red underdress with gold embroidery and a dark burgundy over dress.
