Ludwig Vierthaler (German, 1875-1967) A Bowl. Made for J. Winhart & Co, Munich, Germany circa 1889. A magnificent tour-de-force example of the metalsmith's art. The base of this large bronze bowl was cast and then hand carved with a hammer and chisel to resemble a woven basket. Uprights and arches between, and three rows of weaving at base which is footed and two rows at top. Wide at the top, curving down to a narrow foot.
