Air Force Missile Site 8 - That Nearly Began World War 3    Also known as Titan II ICBM Site 571-7, this missile silo has a lot of historical heritage. Built in the heart of the Arizona Desert, it was a top secret facility operated by the US Air Force. Built at the height of the Cold War (1963), it is now certain that its enormous, 103 ft (31m) Titan II missile was pointed at the USSR.    Located about 15 miles south of Tucson, this large 8 level installation is now a museum.
