Sheila's biggest problem was her anger. It was out of control. If someone made her mad then she was going to make them pay for it. She did not know how to be polite and Torey taught her manners and the importance of being friendly throughout the year. I know that it will be important for me to learn how to cope with students who cannot control their anger.
Comparing Fractions: We focus a great deal on equipping students with strategies for doing this mentally. They take part in an investigation where they 'discover' these mental strategies. Though many students dislike the initially struggle, they realize that developing these mental strategies saves them time in the end. If they just stop and THINK they can often discover which fraction is larger without ever even thinking about 'common denominators'. P4
