In fact, only three or four sets of quads are born each year in the U.K. They usually happen when one or two fertilized eggs divide in the mother’s womb, making two or three of the quads identical twins or triplets. Sometimes there are even two sets of twins. But all four of these babies were fertilized in different eggs, making them non-identical.
Twins - Byron and Lincoln Ryman were born within a minute of each other, first Byron (3lb 6oz) was precisely three times bigger than his brother. Eleven weeks premature, both boys were given a little chance of survival – particularly Lincoln, weighing only 1lb 2oz at birth. Now they are five years old, are doing well, thanks to the dedicated staff at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.
