***UPDATED 10/20/13 In order to educate my students on why we celebrate and more importantly honor Veterans, I have created this 27-page writing prompt and Dog Tag craft. Not only did they write friendly letters to veterans, but they also learned about the history of military dog tags and why poppies are often symbolic of Veterans Day.
Celebrate Veterans Day with this NO PREP minilesson. Have students read a nonfiction text about Veterans Day and answer reading comprehension questions about Veterans Day. Students will write a letter to a soldier and use an acrostic poem to think about why we honor veterans. With this lesson, students will learn about the history of Veterans Day and how that history impacts Veterans Day today.
