It was a stunning day along Bear River at Garden Bar Preserve last month. On BYLT's only working cattle ranch participants learned about grazing operations run by Jim Gates of Nevada County Free Range Beef and plans for the site. These plans will implement more managed grazing to promote healthy soils carbon sequestration more biodiversity and increased stocking rates. Participants also viewed the site of BYLT's future wetland creation project along Little Wolf Creek.

In an effort to address the ongoing problem with dog poop and trash on the Hirschman Trail BYLT staff and the City of Nevada City installed a garbage can at the trail head. "This trail attracts many individuals who do not clean up after their dogs. We receive many complaints so we decided to install a garbage can despite the time and cost" said Land Access Manager Shaun Clarke. #BearYubaLandTrust, Nevada County #BigBrothersBigSisters, and #GoldCountryFlyFishers gathered Saturday at #BlackSwanPreserve for #hiking, #fishing, #history, and multi-generational camaraderie. We hiked the trail showcasing the region’s geology and Gold Rush history. Fly Fishers met us at the pond with poles and rods in hand, ready to teach young people how to fish. Past BYLT President Joe Byrne and his lovely wife, Jeryn prepared us a delicious barbecue picnic lunch.
