What I found very creepy about the Hillhouse were the statues and busts that seemed to watch the people in the house. Their look was inescapable. I love how the lighting here does not hit the concave sockets of the eyes, so they stone is given depth to it's gaze.
When I see something like this statue, I can not imagine how the artist is able to make a piece of stone so resemble something alive! That what looks should be warm, soft flesh is actually stony and cold. I am in complete awe. (Gladiateur mourant)
This is an original watercolor sketch of a giant wave as it curls over and crashes on itself. Painted on Arches Cold Press with Cotman Paints, it measures wide by 5 tall. It has a border so its ready for matting, as is signed by me, the artist.
