Did you know that 1" of rain puts about 600 gallons of water atop a 1,000 square foot house? That's a lot of rainwater to capture and a cistern can do the trick. Captured directly from a downspout, or rain chain, a cistern will have your garden water ready. These cisterns collect rainwater from a nearby roof and when the tanks are full water is dispersed through a gravity-fed drip system that irrigates crops.
Eastern-Style Gates and Arbor If you choose to create an Asian-influenced arbor, make sure the accompanying fence also embraces the style. Though it's flanked by ornately carved fence panels and is fitted with matching gates, this arbor boasts a classically simple form. Note: Increase to 4 columns = Asian x Prairie?
Read fencing for privacy in back yard. Doubled for more privacy. I love this privacy fencing. Inexpensive and very durable. Held up perfectly over Chicago's past very harsh winter. It did fade in color, but easy to paint.
Japanese influencesThis Asian-inspired cedar gate is a fitting sentinel for a terraced West Coast garden with Japanese influences. Its generous size is proportional to the property’s many large, mature trees and high lattice fence. Although it provides privacy and keeps out the numerous deer in the area, it also offers enticing glimpses of the garden within.
