This elaborate costume, was designed by Edward Stevenson for Maureen O’Hara in the 1945 film The Spanish Main, where she played the character of Contessa Francesca. The gown was pulled again for use in the 1952 film At Sword’s Point, where it was worn on Gladys Cooper as Queen Anne. The gown was one of the many pieces sold by Debbie Reynolds several years ago.
Gladys Cooper (I have never seen Gladys Cooper as a young woman in film as such in this photo. I became familar with her as a much older woman in film through TCM. I cannot believe how beautiful she is! Have another picture of her on this board of how she looked in her older films and the ones I am use to seeing. Still remained very striking.)
