The original garment was black silk and velvet and was being worn by Svante Sture when he was murdered on 24 May 1567. He was murdered along with his two sons and some friends on orders of the Swedish King Erik XIV."
c1548 English nobleman wears a totally red outfit of satin or silk decorated with gold embroidery and aiglets. White undershirt with copious blackwork embroidery. Shoes are now higher on the foot, and the pantaloons are visible below the jerkin (which is shortening, before eventually turning into the doublet).
