In a letter dated March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams wrote her husband John urging him not to forget the nation's women in the fight for Independence. Almost 150 years before the 19th Amendment was passed, the future First Lady warned her husband about the dangers of doing so. Abigail wrote in part- “If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation."
