St. Albertus Catholic Church St. Albertus is the mother church of Polish Catholics in the Detroit area. It was the largest Catholic Church in the state of Michigan at the time of its construction (1885). The architect, Henry Engelbert, was born in Germany to parents of Swedish descent. He also designed St. Casimir and St. Francis of Assisi in Detroit. A private, 501c3 organization now works to restore / maintain the School and Church.
