This gentleman is showing how to dye porcupine quills. The animal he used was not hunted, but was found on the road dead. I appreciate that he didn't kill this animal just for the quills. The Natives did not kill their porcupines, but covered them with blankets to get their quills.

This Victorian Squirrel Portrait Print will be a charming addition to the animal art collection of any squirrel lover or animal lover. He is shown offering acorns and would be a perfect housewarming gift for any squirrel lover! His portrait was inspired by the squirrels that I feed from the window of my apartment! This is a print of an original oil painting. It is printed on 8 1/2” x 11” Epson heavy matte paper which gives it a rich, velvety look. I also use Epson inks guaranteed not t...

No Animals Will Be Killed Tomorrow at the NYC ACC Shelters If we can get a grassroots coalition going we can stop this needless killing of adoptable pets. When animals are brought in to shelters that are operated  by the counties they have to take the animal. That is not an option for the shelters. What we have to do is stop the animals from coming in, in the first place and  from being abandoned by owners. Just today an elderly gentleman was bringing in his son's Rottweiler. I was doing…

The Trap Jaw Ant is the proud owner of the fastest moving predatory appendage in the animals kingdom. has two mandibles attached to the front of its head which are held open at 180 degrees, making it look a bit like a surprised Southern gentleman. If the fine hairs lining the mandibles are touched, the mechanism is triggered and the jaws close at speeds of up to 140 mph. That's 2,300 times quicker than you can blink your freaking eye. The speed of their jaw is useful for catching food and…

Even when the performers are faced away from you during the Festival of the Lion King at the Animal Kingdom park, you’re not visually out of action. Here’s a nice view as the performers move away from our seats (also note the hat on the gentleman walking in the door in the far background). We were there on Feb. 8, 2015, during the performance while during a weekend trip at Walt Disney World.

MUSCOOT FARM was originally a "Gentleman's Farm" founded by Ferdinand T. Hopkins in 1880 and operated as a dairy farm until Westchester County acquired the property in the late 1960s. Today, Muscoot Farm is a Westchester County Park that strives to preserve and interpret its agrarian past. Visitors may stroll through the original barns, visit with the animals, participate in educational programs or hike the many miles of trails. There is something for everyone on Muscoot’s 777 acres.
